Open-Sea Fish Farm

The company’s fish farm is located at Cape Dolos, in the Governor’s Beach area, about one kilometer from the nearest shore, in sea depths ranging from 40 to 80 meters.

The fish farm has a production license for 2,200 tons of fish annually. As part of its continuous improvement of productivity and enhancement of safety standards, both for the staff and the fish population, the company invests systematically in the training of its employees and selects high-quality equipment.

The operation of the fish farm is supported by modern vessels, which are moored at the Archirodon Port, where the company has its own mooring facilities. Additionally, coastal land facilities operate in the Tochni area, near Zygi.

After delivery from the hatchery, the juvenile fish (weighing 2–3 grams) are grown in the natural open-sea environment, with clear waters and strong southeastern and southwestern currents almost throughout the year. These ideal conditions, combined with proper management practices, enhance the natural resilience of the fish and contribute to the development of a healthy and balanced fish population.

The fish from Blue Island Plc stand out not only for their excellent physical appearance but also for their unique taste, which results from the healthy metabolism they develop, thanks to the breeding conditions and high-quality fish feed used. Their feed consists of dry pellets with natural ingredients such as fishmeal and cereals, enriched with necessary vitamins and minerals.

The growth of the fish is continuously monitored by specialized staff in low-density marine fish cages with nets secured to floating buoys. During harvesting, the fish are immediately placed in ice-cold water to ensure immediate death and maximum freshness. They are then transferred to the packaging facilities, where they are packaged and made available to consumers, always fresh, nutritious, and healthy.

Naturally healthy fish

The fish are fed with high-quality dry food, specially designed to meet their nutritional needs. Its composition is based on natural ingredients such as fishmeal, fish oils, and selected cereals, providing balanced and nutritious food that contributes to their healthy growth.

Natural appearance and exceptional taste

The wonderful taste and high nutritional value of the fish are attributed to their good metabolism, the result of the clean and oxygenated marine environment, the strong currents prevailing almost all year long, proper management, and careful feeding. The low fish density in the cages also contributes.

Always fresh

The fish are harvested based on customer orders. Throughout the process, from harvesting to distribution, the fish are kept at a controlled temperature and under strict hygiene conditions. To preserve freshness, the technique of instant thermal euthanasia with ice and water is applied.

Full traceability

From the fry stage to the final product, full traceability is applied, ensuring quality control at every stage of the supply chain.

Healthy and strong fry

Healthy and strong fry are selected from the company's hatchery facilities, and they grow in the Blue Island fish farm.

Open-sea farming

The company's fish farm is located in Cape Dolos, an area with depths of 40–80 meters, clear and oxygenated waters, and strong sea currents throughout the year.

Professionalism

The company's processing and packaging facilities operate in compliance with national and European legislation and have certification of compliance with code CYF07.

Privileged Location

The open sea fish farm of the company is located at Dolos Cape at the Governor’s Beach area (34° 41'  742 Β / 33° 16'  253Α, 34° 41'  745 Β / 33° 16'  010 Α, 34° 41'  939 Β / 33° 16'  299 Α, 34° 41' 944 Β/33° 16'  041 Α ) 1 km from the nearest beach, at a depth of 30-60 m.

The fish fry (2-3gr), after delivered from our hatchery, grow in a natural environment of clear waters and strong southeastern and southwestern currents, almost throughout the year. The position of the fish farm is truly privileged. There is high oxygenation, which contributes to the good health of fish. The location of the fish farm in combination with the good management practices followed results in the production of healthy fish in the fish farm, which do not need vaccines, antibiotics, hormones or any other medicine.

Superior Quality Fish Feed

The fish produced by Blue Island Plc have a wonderful taste due to the good metabolism they have as a result of the clear waters they grow in and the superior quality fish feed used.

Dry food in small pellets consisting of natural ingredients, fishmeal and cereals enriched with vitamin and minerals. The fish food used does not contain within their formulations any land animal products, GMO ingredients, antibiotics or growth promoters.

Good Management Production Practices

Fish grow under closely monitored sea conditions, in low stocking density in the fish cages (floaters with nets) and when they are harvested they are placed on ice-water for immediate death. Subsequently they are taken to the packing house where they are packed and reach consumers, always fresh, nutritional, healthy and safe to eat.

Fleet and Coastal Mooring

The company’s fleet consists of modern vessels and a marine platform.

The vessels are specialized for specific tasks, such as crane ships used for fishing, fish and feed transport vessels, and boats for night shifts and surveillance. The marine platform, measuring 10 x 20 meters, is mainly used as storage for fish feed.

The fish farm vessels anchor at the Archirodon Port, where the company has its own coastal mooring facilities.

Land Facilities

On a 15,599 sqm area, Blue Island Plc has built its land facilities in Tochni, near Zygi. These facilities are currently used as storage spaces and workshops that provide mechanical support for the vessels, diving equipment, net repairs, and as staff accommodation areas.

The design of the central building allows it to be used, if necessary, as a packaging, processing, and fish storage space.

The company wishes to have alternative infrastructure for fish packaging and storage facilities at this location, beyond its existing facilities in the Strovolos Industrial Area, so it can respond to both emergency situations and new business opportunities that may arise.
